Located in Northwest
Pennsylvania, Meadville was settled in 1788, by David Mead
and nine others. It's prosperity can be linked to the rich
farm lands of the French Creek Valley.
Meadville was incorporated in 1823 as a borough and later as
a City in 1866. It was designated the Crawford County seat in
1880. In 1988 Meadville celebrated its Bicentennial with many
events and activities.
Today, Meadville is home to more than 13,000 fulltime
residents. City, county and state government offices are
conveniently located in the downtown business district. The
City is also an active center for business, industry,
education, the arts, recreation, service and tourism.
Allegheny College and Edinboro University both have campuses
located within City limits. The Academy Theatre showcases
productions with local talent. The Meadville Area Recreation
Complex provides year round activities for all ages. The
historic Meadville Market House supplies locally grown
produce and products, year round.
