The City Treasurer
is authorized by law and local political subdivision to be the
collection agent for City, School and County Real Estate Taxes. The
local political subdivisions for whom the tax is collected
compensate the Treasurer and his/her staff equally to reimburse for
the cost of collections.
The City of Meadville levies a tax on all real estate in the City.
The Crawford County Assessment Office determines the value of the
property on which taxes must be paid.
Real Estate Tax bills for the City and County, are generally sent
out annually by the middle of February for the current year and the
School in July for the current year.
If you have a mortgage and your property taxes are escrowed, your
tax bill should be mailed to your mortgage company for payment from
your escrow fund.
If property has been sold and you receive a bill in error, please
forward bill to the new owner or return to the City Treasurer's
Office with any information you may have.
CITY PROPERTY TAX:
City Real Estate Taxes are based on a calendar year from January 1
thru December 31 of the current year. If you pay your bill on or
before the discount date in April, you receive a 2% discount. If
you pay after the Face Amount due date in June, a 10% penalty is
added to your taxes until the end of the year. If the taxes remain
unpaid as of January 1 of the following year, they will be turned
over to the Crawford County Tax Claim Bureau. Once turned over to
the Tax Claim Bureau there are additional costs and interest due.

County Real Estate Taxes are based on a calendar year from January 1
thru December 31 of the current year. If you pay your bill on or
before the discount date in April, you receive a 3% discount. If
you pay after the Face Amount due date in June, a 10% penalty is
added to your taxes until the end of the year. If the taxes remain
unpaid as of January 1 of the following year, they will be turned
over to the Crawford County Tax Claim Bureau. Once turned over to
the Tax Claim Bureau there are additional costs and interest due.
SCHOOL PROPERTY TAX:
School Real Estate Taxes are based on a fiscal year from July 1 of
the current year thru June 30 of the next year. If you pay your bill
on or before the discount date in September, you receive a 2%
discount. If you pay Face Amount due date in November, a 10%
penalty is added to your taxes until the end of the year. If the
taxes remain unpaid as of January 1 of the following year, they will
be turned over to the Crawford County Tax Claim Bureau. Once turned
over to the Tax Claim Bureau there are additional costs and interest
due.
PAYMENT OF TAXES:
Taxes may be paid at the City Treasurer's Office, 984 Water
Street, Meadville, PA.
Payments may be mailed to the City Treasurer's Office, 984 Water
Street, Meadville, PA 16335. Checks should be made payable to "City
Treasurer."
Discount and penalty are determined by postmark date of payment -
not check date.

tax notice shall not relieve any taxpayer from the payment of any
taxes imposed by any taxing district, and such taxpayer shall be
charged with his taxes as though he had received notice." |
