Planning & Zoning

The City of Meadville planning department develops goals, strategies, plans, maps, and reports to inform officials’ decisions on the long-term development of the city, primarily in the subjects of land use and development policies, public spaces, and infrastructure. The City Planner is responsible for preparing or implementing plans such as for the City’s comprehensive plan, parks and recreation, housing, parking, and transportation, and contributing to project-specific plans, community development efforts, and development-related ordinances and regulations. The City Planner also assists with grant writing and management, research, analysis of demographic and spatial data, and mapping, and assists with organizing engagement efforts with community groups, other municipalities, agencies, and the public on planning initiatives.

The City Planner acts as a staff contact and technical advisor to the Planning Commission, Beautification Committee, and the Environmental Advisory Committee, and to other citizen advisory committees or authorities as needed.
